I also had a mind block and could not generate ideas for the different briefs I took, I do not know why, maybe cause I felt pressured because it was for a competition than a course brief.
But I have chosen a brief that I am happy with, and I have got past the mind block and have come up with an idea that I am going to follow through and try to create the best outcome I can possibly with the time frame given. The competition has been extended to the end of March so it gives me more time to finish it and still be able to submit it for the competition.
The brief I have chosen is for the company, Arla. The brief wants the a video about goodness and how that can change someone's day.
I have been mindmapping different ideas and roughly storyboarded one but I have decided to change that and I am about to start storyboarding my final idea which I am happy with.
Above are my mindmaps, not very detailed but they highlight what I thought goodness is associated with.
My intial first idea was to choose the topic of 'LAUGHTER' and how that make people feel good inside.
I decided that maybe the storyline would be 3 girls sat in a cafe talking when someone makes a funny joke and one of the girls laughs for a long time.
This is idea was vague and didn't really make sense because there wasn't a backstory so I decided not to work on it and think of another.
Then I thought about maybe showing a contrast between two people's lives, person 1 lives each day like it is the last, by exercising, eating healthy, doing social activities. Person 2 lives their life in a slow, unprogressive way by waking up halfway through the day, not eating properly.
This was an interesting idea because there was still room to explore it further, maybe add a bit of humour but then I did not really want do it because I could not think of a way of getting the storyline across about goodness, nor did I want to showcase a bias view of how people should live their lives.
The idea I am happy with is simple but hopefully effective with the message I am trying to get across.
It involves a friend trying to cheer up a grumpy flatmate by baking them a sweet dessert, I thought this idea is simple and can represent the goodness in friendship without making the product brand obvious in the video.
I am advised to use natural light in this video so I thought this idea allows me to not have to use additional lighting and I can experiment with natural daylight instead.
I am now at the stage where I can storyboard and work on how I want to film my shots. I plan on shooting this next week Monday and if needed on Friday during assessment week.
My filming crew is consisting of I and Sophie. Sophie's role is the camera woman while I am going to handling the audio, the reason it is only a small crew is because I will not be using any additional lighting in my film as I want to use natural light, which was suggested in the brief requirements. This is why I am going to make sure that the day and time I film will have appropriate lighting.
The location of the film is at my flat which is not very big so having a 5 man crew would only crowd the place and create chaos.
My actors are April Harris and Meg Sugden who are the main actors in the film.
