MODELLING MY THRONE
This is to show how I modelled my throne which I consider to be part of my main props in my environment.
Reference photo I used but simplified the shape |
How it looked previously. |
This is how my throne for Goddess Gaia is going to look, I have not made the throne look dismantled or mouldy because I want the idea of it to be that it is the perfect throne and cannot be damaged, so quite magical in the sense. Texturing it was not hard but I searched for Greek drawings on google, I could have used the images from the books on Greek history from the library but I am going to use those for my other props. I needed to find Greek drawings or carvings to give my throne the visual traits it needed.

MODELLING MY PILLARS
First image I used as a UV map |
Vertical lines can be seen in this UV map |
Texturing the Greek Pillars was hard because I wanted to try and make the texture myself as I wanted the pillars to have a leaf vines growing around them. The first attempt which can be seen above with the caption did not go well because I created the texture as a whole image instead of drawing just part of it because when I applied it to my object, it was too stretched to keep it on. So I researched for 'stone texture' on Google images which I changed the Layer mode and drew the leaf vines over it. This worked as you can see and to give my pillars vertical ridges it should have, I drew vertical lines for that effect.
I am happy with the way my pillars look, it colour shade is quite yellowish but I think that I can change that with the lighting I decide to use in Unity.
The bumpmap I added has helped give it that dismantled look I wanted which helps to emphasise the 'FEAR' theme. As you can see the bump map helps add depth to the surface of my pillars.
I also solved the problem of my pillars looking hollow instead of opaque because I deleted some edges it did not give me the broken down look I aimed for, so I turned on the 'backface culling' setting in Maya which allowed me to see how it might look in Unity. I then used the 'Append Polygon Tool' in Maya to join up the edges which still allowed me to keep my pillars looking dismantled.
